World Champion Nick Matthew to Visit City

Saturday, 16th July 2011 at the Elfordleigh Hotel Golf and Country Club

For the first time since the 1960’s a squash World Champion will be visiting Plymouth, thanks to Keith White, Managing Director of Michael Spiers Jewellers.

“It is with immense pride that I am bringing the first English World Squash Champion to Plymouth on Saturday, 16th July 2011 at the Elfordleigh Hotel,” says Keith.

“This is a first and a real coup for Plymouth and the South West. The last World Champion to appear here was in the late 60s when Jonah Barrington, who was six times World Champion, contested against Australian Geoff Hunt who was also World Champion six times.”

They will be playing an exhibition match at 7.00pm for which tickets are now available by calling Cynthia Billington at Michael Spiers on 01752 262530. Tickets are £15 seated and £10 standing, and early booking is essential.

Earlier in the day, from 10am to 1pm, both Nick and Joey will be holding a Junior Coaching Clinic. These one hour sessions can also be booked with Cynthia at Michael Spiers, and at only £10 are remarkable value for what will very likely be a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from two professionals at the top of their game.

From 12pm – 1pm Nick and Joey will take on all comers, offering club players who fancy their chances 10 minutes on court for just £10. Obviously tickets for these sessions are very limited so enthusiasts are urged to call Cynthia Billington at Michael Spiers to book as soon as possible.
